They often wonder, first of all, how long is this going to take? Generally, in this office, when I place a single implant, that may only take twenty minutes. People rarely have to take any medication for pain after. Maybe Advil or a Tylenol after. Pretty straightforward procedure. When it comes to doing a full arch, they think, oh, my God, that's something else, where we take off the teeth, place all the implants. If we're doing, let's say, one arch, let's say we're just going to do the upper, we schedule 2 hours to do that. Taking teeth out, placing the implants and making some teeth for them that they can wear out[?] The money aspect of it, we have payment systems and we do accept insurance payments, but insurance payments have gotten smaller and smaller every year, but we still work with them. We also have a third-party payment system that people will take advantage of that can split the payments over several years, that will make it much more affordable. And then the fear aspect, we make sure people are very comfortable. Everything from a caring staff to IV sedation to warm blankets. We're here for you. Our team provides top quality dental care in a friendly environment. ----- Jeff: My family has a very bad history with teeth and dental problems. I, back in my 30s, had issues with teeth. I needed root canals, I had teeth that were decaying badly, I had gum problems, and my teeth started falling out. I got to the point where I couldn't smile anymore because it was embarrassing. I had teeth that were missing at that point and had root canals that were being done on all my molar teeth, and I finally got up one day and my tooth was wiggling. I said, "I need to get my teeth replaced." Dr. Mark Connelly: Jeff came into the office, he talked about never having good teeth. He had bridges done, he had root canals done, he had crowns done, and despite that, it was all failing. Every time he ate something, he would experience pain in some of those teeth, that he had. He's a business owner. He's in front of the public a lot, so it was important to have some really good... a really nice appearance. Jeff: Well, I got in contact with the practice and then three days later, they got me in for consultation. I had seen Dr. Connelly briefly on that day. He explained everything. He said I was definitely a candidate for replacement. Basically, there's different levels, the way he told me, with dental implants, going all the way down to dentures. I didn't want dentures, and I wanted to have them, so I did not have to take them out every night. We got to the point where it's just the implants that are permanent. Dr. Connelly: Since the teeth were pretty much helpless, we removed the teeth, placed the dental implants all at one appointment where he was sedated, and he walked out with some fixed temporary teeth that day. He's just ecstatic with the results. Jeff: I have a great appreciation for Dr. Connelly. He and his staff were very helpful. They explained everything to me. Our team provides top quality dental care in a friendly environment. ----- Tamara: I had lost all of my bottom teeth due to injuries that led to me losing my top teeth because the denture up against the normal teeth. Everything was breaking. I went to different other dentists, and they said that there was nothing they could do, it's just the way life is going to be. My daughter's mother-in-law was in the process of getting the implants done and she's like "Don't give up! Go see this guy in St. John's." Mark Connelly: When Tamara came in, she had no teeth, and she had a very difficult time chewing or keeping the denture out. She wanted a fixed solution because she was tired of dentures, she was tired of taking things out therefore, we looked at placing dental implants. Tamara: He looked over, he did a great work of x-rays. Everything came back and he said, "It's going to take a lot of work, it's going to take time but I think we can give you implants." And later, he proved himself to be correct and I have the beautiful implants. Mark: First, it's a little more challenging of a case because she had worn dentures for so long that there's quite a bit of resorption of the bone. When someone's teeth goes away, so does the bone that supports it. But, we're still able to find enough bone to place the implants to give her these fixed restorations. Tamara: When I first got these, I was a little nervous that they were too perfect, they were too nice, there was no flaws in them, they looked too natural, nobody was going to believe, you know, that they were mine and I actually asked them to mess them up and he's like "No. I want you...we're going to do it this way." And he spent a lot of time convincing me, otherwise and I am so super glad that he did because now I smile, I get compliments, people are like, "Oh! Your smile is so beautiful!" They never say, "Oh! Your teeth are so, something..." And they are always like "Your smile is so beautiful!" So, it feels good. I can't think him enough for what he has done to change my life and my family's life because they have me back. I would lose one, it seemed like every year I would go through pain. It had gotten so bad that I couldn't chew up food to the point where it would make my stomach hurt. I would almost choke sometimes because I hadn't chewed up on that. I didn't have enough teeth. I had to do something, and I just happened to see Dr. Connelly's video when I was scrolling through on my phone, and here I am. Mark Connelly: When Johanna first came in, she had very few teeth left. I think she was wearing some plastic, removable partial denture that didn't fit well at all. She didn't like to smile. She would keep her lips over her teeth all the time when she didn't have her mask on, and she came here looking for a solution. Johanna: When I came in here, I didn't realize there was as many options as there was. I didn't know there was the snap in-kind, and really that's kind of what I wanted. I didn't want to have to go that step above to get what I got now, which I'm very thankful I did. When he explained it to me, that the same thing as having the set that I have but I don't have to do anything of this at all. Mark: After discussing the different options, she wanted something that was fixed and was natural. Taking all those factors into consideration, we again planned to extract the remaining teeth, do dental implants, and make her fixed zirconia bridges. Johanna: He had done a lot in one visit. He had taken the last of the teeth I had out, which was probably nine of them. When he put the embarkments in, at the same time. It wasn't really painful, it was more like a throbbing, and it was from them, working in my mouth, is what I want to say. It wasn't the pain of my teeth. It almost felt better to have those teeth out. Mark: Now, one of the real big benefits that people enjoy is having everything done in one place, in one office I should say because when they come in, oftentimes, I like to minimize surgery which means they come in, I take out the teeth, I do any re-contouring of the bone that needs to be done, I place the implants, and they walk out of here, most of the time, with a fixed temporary teeth in. Johanna: After years of being scared to go to the dentist, I am so thankful there was somebody like Dr. Connelly out there to make these smiles happen because it's wonderful. I don't even know really honestly, how I would describe it, but like a lot of pain, a lot of decay. I think I even had cracked teeth. Really young, I just had crooked teeth and then I started hiding that in middle school. And so between the crooked teeth that I didn't want people to see and then just neglecting my teeth, going back to you just hide it. If I don't think about it, if I don't see it, then it won't be a problem. Over the course of 15 years of hiding my teeth with [inaudible], it got really bad and to the point where I had no hope for my teeth. Mark Connelly: When Chuck came in, he was a mess. He had lots of decay, broken down teeth, and pain. He didn't even remember what it was like to be able to eat with all his teeth because he had to find a place that did not hurt. Chuck is a very outgoing, very personable man. He's also a minister, so he preaches a lot and he never felt quite comfortable even being able to smile. Chuck: I looked up all on implants and I started looking at pictures of each office and what the people in the office looked like and if they were using stock photos or if they were using real photos from their offices. By that time, I got around to that to hear, I was like, all these people look chill, like the office staff, the doctor. I was like, oh man, these people look chill. I'll try them out. Mark: It takes a lot of faith to put your trust in a doctor who says, "I'm going to put you to sleep. I'm going to take out your teeth. I'm going to place implants for you, and I'm going to make some beautiful, fixed implant-supported bridges, which is what we did. Chuck: That was surprisingly not as bad as I thought it was going to be in any way, shape, or form. I don't really remember a lot of pain. When I saw my smile for the first time, it was, I don't like to cry in front of people. I mean you go back to the feeling like you're in middle school and you noticed your teeth are crooked for the first time. So, then you start this pattern of hiding your entire life. And then now it's like I can smile, and I don't mind if anybody sees it. I didn't want to do this video. But kind of that feeling of what I was able to see where I went from to where I got to, I was like, if I can help other people do the same thing or have some sort of hope, then that's really why I'm doing this video because I don't necessarily want to. Mark: I've been practicing dentistry since 1983. This is the 40th year and the reason I continue to practice is because I put all these skills together and I change people's lives. Our team provides top quality dental care in a friendly environment. ----- Sam: I had a car accident in 1978. I rolled the car. I was hemiplegic. My left side was paralyzed. I couldn't brush my teeth well, and that lasted almost three years. That time, I got some severe periodontal disease, some resorption of the alveolar process, and they got looser and looser as I went along. I was practicing law, I started losing teeth, and it was not an attractive way to go into a courtroom. The periodontal disease worked slowly, so it took probably 10 years until I finally started having severe problems, and I had to do something at that point. Dr. Mark Connelly: When Sam first came in, his biggest problem was lack of teeth. The ones that he did have were very painful, and he wanted a natural, long-term solution to the problem. Sam: I searched in the net, trying to research the process itself and seeing who was available in the area to do the work. I was most impressed with Dr. Connelly's advertisements, and his history, his curriculum vitae was the best as far as I can see. Dr. Connelly: We discussed with Sam the different options, first of all, the conditions that he had. We found out what his goals were. His wife came with him, which was very important because it was part of her desire, too, to see him happy and healthy. After the conclusion, we have decided that the best option was to remove the remaining teeth that were left, place dental implants, and do a fixed zirconia bridge. Sam: That was probably the best part of Dr. Connelly's process, I thought. He's got a minor degree in anesthesiology. He used drugs to put me in a twilight sleep. It was not too much, was not too little. It was exactly right on point, exactly what I needed, no more, no less. Dr. Connelly: He's a big talker, and his wife loves the looks of his teeth. I would say he was a total success. He is extremely happy. Sam: I was delighted. I had spent the last 10 years of my life trying to hide my teeth, so it was nice to just be relaxed about my presentation to the world. I work with people, they don't smile, they don't go to social functions because they're embarrassed about their teeth.
